Do you think that bus companies should run a Saturday service on Bank Holiday Mondays or stick to the present practice of operating Sunday timetables

Your poll answers should be Saturday or Sunday Service.
Nothing up with the current Sunday services is there? Why change them.

If you're in Ilkley, a sunday service is better as you don't have to wait till 7pm to get a bus to Bradford!

No real preference from me, its the difference between a 10 or 15min service (meh). Might be a pain for people who's bus dosen't run on a Sunday.

Depends on the quality of Sunday versus Saturday service.
My example is outside of West Yorkshire but still illustrates the point - the Humber Fastcat service. I was at work on Monday and may have used the bus if it was a Saturday timetable with a half hourly frequency. But it was a Sunday timetable with just 6 journeys at not very convienent times. So I used the car
But if the Sunday frequency is still say every 15 minutes compared to every 10 minutes on a Saturday then the Sunday frequency is probably adequate
And finally for a Saturday service to be justified there has to be the passenger levels. Going to my earlier example of the Humber Fastcat there probably wouldn't have been enough passengers to make a Saturday service worthwhile

A Bank Holiday Monday is very similar to a Sunday in terms of work patterns, shopping, leisure etc. Some services have an enhanced service during the day, eg 72. I would retain the Sunday service on the Mondays but think it's about time for an overhaul of provision on a Sunday. There is some demand for extra services on the morning eg the first bus from Bradford to Bingley 616 is often well loaded. However late evening journeys are lightly loaded cf the rest of the week. I would like to see an earlier start 0700? at half frequency until 1000 hrs. Then from 2000 hrs half frequency til normal weekday end of service.

Going to my earlier example of the Humber Fastcat there probably wouldn't have been enough passengers to make a Saturday service worthwhile I suppose staffing would come into it as well. As bank holidays aren't normal working days, people have the option whether to work or not (to an extent, obviously someone has to turn up!) Drivers might not be too happy if more people are forced to work to cover a saturday service.

Depends on contracts I guess
Though what confuses me slightly is that Good Friday can see a weekday, Saturday or Sunday services depending on what area you are in. And I cant say personally Ive noticed much difference between Good Friday and Bank Holiday Mondays

And I cant say personally Ive noticed much difference between Good Friday and Bank Holiday Mondays In Yorkshire it was traditional to work the Friday and take the Tuesday. Apart from banks. Nowadays there's a tendency to have the Friday off. There still seems2be a fair number of passengers on Good Friday so a Saturday service prob best matches this day at the moment.

"Should bus companies run a Saturday or a Sunday service on Bank Holiday Mondays?" Yes or No? Is that question "How to confuse an Idiot" yes or no? I think a blanket Saturday service would be a waste, most services are justified with a Sunday service. The last three bank holiday Monday's i have worked this year have been quieter than the Sunday before. Maybe the busier services town to town ie Leeds - Bradford, Keighley - Bradford etc could benefit with a few extra buses between 10am & 4, but then the shops shut and passenger numbers die off, local estate buses are quiet all day. Surely by now if there was sufficient demand for a Saturday service the bus companies or metro would have realised, and run the Saturday service. There are only a Handful of Bank Holidays in a year, is it a great hardship that bus services are reduced - is it too much to ask that drivers who spend the rest of the year working either crack of dawn early's, silly splits, or the dreaded late shift to actually be able to spend some quality time with their families? So how do i vote against Saturday Services?
