Came across this, thought it might be interersting to some: www.ukbusawards.org.uk/content/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&id=12&Itemid=129Seems there is a lack of entries from West Yorkshire this year, and I'm slightly disappointed First aren't nominated for operator of the year. Only entries I could find for our area are: Engineer of the Year - Arriva Yorkshire Innovation - First Leeds for reducing waste/helping environment Best Shire Operator - Burnley & Pendle and Coastliner

I don't think First could be considered for any award, certainly in West and North Yorkshire, given the number of service cuts and fare increases in recent times.
Apart from launching the X64, purely to compete with Transdev Coastliner, First have not delivered anything innovative or pioneering worthy of a trophy. The only thing they have achieved in the last 12 months is a damaged relationship with the ITA.

I see First as the leader for West Yorkshire. OK, their performance isn't brilliant but given some of the routes they serve it's hardly surprising. What I like about First though is they seem the only operator with common sense. They are working hard to eliminate early running, improve driving standards and reduce fuel consumption. They are the only company that seem to regulate their buses to try and maintain the timetable and aren't afraid of misallocating buses to keep the service going at times of disruption. I also doubt if any other company outside London has invested in as many new vehicles as they have over the past 12 months.

There wouldn't have been as many new buses delivered to West Yorkshire if the referendum on the TIF was approved. It's a shame about the changes back in July, however, they are a business after all with most of the changes being reasonable.

I think First are ok too but I hear a lot of people saying it would be a lot better if Stagecoach was in WY instead of First because they buy better buses etc. instead of Eclipse's but if Stagecoach was here everyone would be complaining about the Enviro body and it been too common.
