Seen an article on the Manchester Buses blog about somebody who is attempting to travel from the north of Britain all the way down to the south coast by only using Stagecoach services. James McCollom came up with idea after trying to work out how far somebody could travel on Stagecoach buses. Following a Stagecoach takeover in the Highlands and Lincolnshire, he has decided to give it a go, raising money for charity for The Christie's in Manchester, in the process. The journey will start in Thurso on April 18th and attempts to arrive in Brighton 6 days later. The majority of the route will be completed by bus (normal Stagecoach services not Megabus or express services), with the remaining gaps by filled by Stagecoach-owned trains. Route:Day 1: Thurso-Montrose via Iverness and Aberdeen Day 2: Montrose-Carlisle via Dundee, Glenrothies, Glasgow, Ayr and Dumfries Day 3: Carlisle-Stockport via Penrith, Keswick, Lancaster, Preston and Bolton Day 4: Stockport-Grantham via Sheffield (on East Midlands Trains), Chesterfield, Worksop, Retford, Gainsborough and Lincoln Day 5: Grantham-Andovervia Peterborough (on East Midlands Trains), Milton Keynes, Bicester, Oxford, Swindon and Marlborough Day 6: Andover-Brighton via Basingstoke, Alton, Petersfield and Havant. As well as Stagecoach operating to John O'Groats, First operate to Land's End.
I wonder whether he might eventually travel from Land's End to John O'Groats as far as possible on just First and Stagecoach buses!
